Built in 1850, the LeBoutillier Brothers warehouse proudly dominates the Paspébiac bank, greatly to the displeasure of its neighbour, the powerful Charles Robin & Company. Constructed of wood, it is the largest fishery building in North America.
Five stories high, its impressive frame calls to mind a cathedral, one wholly dedicated to the fishery. It is used to store dried cod from the four corners of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The fish is carefully prepared for shipment.
From the bull’s eye, watch is kept for the arrival of ships. Once loaded, the ships sail for Europe, the West Indies and Brazil.
